The Baltimore District Office filed this case in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. The defendant was Bob Ward New Homes at Harford County, a residential home builder. The complaint alleged that the complainant, a black male, was disciplined and terminated because of his race in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The lawsuit was filed in September 2005 and was eventually resolved by consent decree in June 2006. The complainant, who did not intervene in the case, was awarded a total of $46,000, and was given a promise of positive job references along with expungement of any mention of the incident from his personnel file.
