In September 2001, the Los Angeles District Office of the EEOC filed this lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California alleging discrimination on the basis of gender in violation of the Equal Pay Act. We do not have a copy of the complaint; therefore, the exact allegations involved are unknown. Following a scheduling conference, the parties settled the lawsuit through a settlement agreement in August 2002.
The settlement agreement, containing an anti-retaliation clause, required the defendant to: make compliance reports, allow a neutral office to monitor for compliance, provide training to program managers in a two hour session, create a uniform policy for payment of per-student fees to individual part-time instructors for the particular program, and pay $40,000 to be distributed among 5 complainants.
