The Philadelphia office of the EEOC brought this suit against Chubb & Son in August 2003, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. The complainant intervened in the EEOC's suit. The plaintiff-intervenor alleged violations of the Equal Pay Act because she, a black female, was paid less than a white male who was performing substantially similar work. She also alleged violations of Title VII because the defendant allegedly created a hostile work environment in retaliation for her complaints. The defendant moved for summary judgment, which was granted in part and denied in part. The parties appeared to come to a settlement in January 2005, but the parties reopened the case in February 2005. After a jury trial, the court entered judgment in the amount of $11,848.06 in favor of the defendant.
