The EEOC Houston office filed this suit on July 5, 2001 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Lufkin Division. The suit alleged that defendant WVT Texas violated the Equal Pay Act and Title VII by paying the two female complainants $50 less per week than a male employee in the exact same position. The case progressed smoothly after filing with a scheduling conference and the adding of a second complainant as the only substantive events. Then, on September 4, 2002, the parties filed an agreed motion to enter the consent decree. The consent decree was officially entered by the court on September 12, 2002.
In the consent decree, the defendant agreed to pay one of the complainants $1290 and provide her with a neutral job reference. The defendant also agreed to refrain from discriminating in its compensation and post notice of employee rights in its facility. The decree, which remained in effect for one year, was subject to court enforcement.
