Case Summary

In May 2004, the Los Angeles District Office of the EEOC brought this action against Caesars Entertainment, Inc. (d/b/a Reno Hilton) and related businesses in the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada alleging violations of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The complaint alleged that the defendant discriminated against the charging party, a female employee, and other female employees on the basis of sex by subjecting the women to a sexually hostile work environment. After numerous discovery disputes, the parties settled the case through a consent decree in September 2006.

The two-year decree required the defendant to pay $125,000 to the charging parties and included both non-discrimination and non-retaliation provisions. In addition, the defendant agreed to: post an EEOC-provided notice, designate an EEO consultant to monitor Title VII compliance, revise its discrimination and retaliation policies, provide Title VII training to all employees, modify internal procedures regarding discrimination complaints, and provide neutral references to the charging parties. The decree also required the defendant to keep records of all complaints of sexual harassment or retaliation and to report these findings to the EEOC at specified intervals. The docket sheet doesn't show any further enforcement took place; the case was presumably closed in 2008.
