In September 2004, the EEOC district office in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania brought this suit against GlaxoSmithKline in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. According to the complaint, the defendant violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 when it discharged a pregnant microbiologist who worked with various chemicals that the employer feared would harm her, despite the fact that her doctor cleared her for work after determining that her employment posed no dangers to her.
The parties settled and a consent decree was entered in June 2005. The consent decree is not currently available.
