The EEOC's St. Louis district office sued Quality Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc. on August 25, 1998 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. The EEOC's complaint alleged that the defendant violated Americans with Disabilities Act when it discriminated based on disability by retaliating against the complainant by not hiring him for a previous report of discrimination to the EEOC. After participating in mediation, the parties entered into a settlement agreement on June 1, 1999, which stipulated that the defendant would pay the complainant $25,000 in damages, post a notice of compliance with the ADA, post EEO posters, and report compliance with the requirements of the consent decree.
