This case was brought by "Jane Doe" on April 6, 1995 against the City of Chicago and various law enforcement officials in the United States District court for the Northern District of Illinois. Plaintiff, represented by People's Law Offices, claimed violations of the Fourth, Fifth, Ninth and Fourteenth Amendments to the U.S. Constitution arising out of a police search of her home and person incident to her arrest at her home for a traffic ticket.

Specifically, Plaintiff claimed a detective and police officers broke in her front door, searched her home and broke in her bathroom door. They refused to show her a warrant. They then took her to the police station where, in the presence of male officers, she was subjected to an intrusive strip search.

The case was referred to a magistrate (Mag. Judge Edward A. Bobrick) for report and recommendations on the Defendants' motions to dismiss various of Plaintiff's claims. On October 2, 1995, the Magistrate recommended dismissal of the Fifth and Ninth Amendment portions of Plaintiff's Third Count. Jane Doe (1995 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 14517)

On January 18, 1996, the magistrate (Mag. Judge Edward A. Bobrick) issued recommendations as to the Defendant process server's motion for summary judgment. The Court (Judge Bucklo) adopted the recommendation as to summary judgment in favor of the defendant on Plaintiff's 4th Amendment claim, but found that her claim for conspiracy to use excessive force in making the arrest.

On March 14, 1996, Plaintiff filed an amended complaint.

On May 6, 1997, the remaining parties reached a settlement and the case was dismissed.
