The EEOC's San Francisco district office sued SEGA of America and Spherion Corporation on September 30, 2002 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. The EEOC alleged that the defendant violated Title VII when it discriminated based on national origin (Filipino) by discharging numerous employees because of their national origin and five employees in retaliation for their complaints about the treatment of minorities. The parties entered into a consent decree on April 4, 2006, which stipulated that the defendant would pay the complainants $600,000 in damages, provide Title VII training to its employees, revise its non-discrimination policy, and seek to recruit employees at its San Francisco office by posting an advertisement in a San Francisco Filipino newspaper.
