In June 2005, the Atlanta District Office of the EEOC filed this lawsuit against Home Improvement Financial Services, Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia alleging discrimination and retaliation on the basis of race in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Specifically, the complaint alleged that the defendant discriminated against the complaining party, and African-American employee, on the basis of race and subsequently fired him in retaliation for his opposition to this practice. Following completion of discovery, the parties settled the lawsuit in March 2006 through a consent decree.
The one-year decree, containing non-retaliation and non-discrimination clauses, required the defendant to: certify implementation of its revised anti-discrimination policy to the EEOC, provide a neutral reference for the complainant, and pay $5,000 to be distributed to the complainant.
The decree was entered in 2006 and scheduled to last until 2007. No further docket entries exist, so the case is closed.
