In September 2003, the Philadelphia District Office of the EEOC filed this lawsuit against Muhlenberg Medical Associates in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania alleging discrimination on the basis of sex in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Specifically, the complaint alleged that the defendant subjected the three charging parties, female employees, to a sexually hostile work environment and, in one case, denial of a promotion in retaliation for her opposition to these practices. A charging party intervened in December 2003. Following a voluntary dismissal due to settlement of a third party defendant, the parties settled the lawsuit in December 2004 through a consent decree.
The two year decree required the defendant to post notice of employee EEO rights, provide EEO training to its managers and physicians, and pay $100,500 to be distributed among three complainants and their legal counsel.
