Case Summary

The EEOC's Memphis office filed this suit against Steven T. Cox, once doing business as Cox Cabinet Company, on December 21, 1999 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee, Nashville Division. Arete MDF, LLC was also joined because it purchased Cox Cabinet Company and all of its liabilities. The EEOC and the intervening complainant alleged sexual harassment in violation of Title VII. The defendant moved twice for summary judgment, but the motions were denied each time. EEOC, et al v. Steven T. Cox, Inc., et al, No. 3:99-1184, 2001 WL 34384461 (M.D. Tenn. June 28, 2001); EEOC, et al v. Steven T. Cox, Inc., et al, No. 3:99-1184, 2002 WL 32357095 (M.D. Tenn. July 19, 2002).

In 2002, the parties came to terms, and the court approved a consent decree on October 2, 2002. The consent decree is currently unavailable.
