Case Summary

In December 1998, the EEOC district office in Seattle, Washington brought this action against Micron Technology, Inc. and Micron Communications, Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the District of Idaho. The EEOC alleged that the defendants violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 when they terminated an employee for complaining about sexual harassment.

The court granted defendants motions for summary judgment in March 2000. The EEOC appealed but the decision was affirmed by the Ningth Circuit Court of Appeals. The district court awarded the defendants $19,260.86 in costs and attorneys fees; the EEOC also appealed this decision, but the appeal was dismissed by the Circuit Court.
