In March 2001, the Birmingham District Office of the EEOC brought this suit against Ballard Realty Management Company, Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Alabama. We do not have a copy of the EEOC's complaint. However, the charging party intervened in the suit in May 2001, and her complaint alleged discrimination on the basis of sex in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Specifically, the defendant discriminated against the charging party, a female employee, after it discovered that she was pregnant by decreasing her work hours and subjecting her to a hostile work environment.
In April 2002, the defendant filed a motion for summary judgment which was granted in May 2002. Therefore, the plaintiff did not obtain relief. In July 2002, the suit was appealed, and in December 2002, the appeal was dismissed with prejudice because the parties apparently reached a settlement.
