This case was brought by the EEOC's Chicago office in September 2001, in U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois. The EEOC alleged that Nielsen & Bainbridge violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act by subjecting a class of black and female employees to sexual and racial harassment.
In June of 2002, the case was consolidated with a separate action brought by one of the employees (case #1:01-cv-07388). In December 2002 the parties came to terms, and a consent decree was entered resolving both cases. The defendant agreed to pay $155,000 total, including approximately $73,000 to the charging party. The consent decree also prohibited the defendant from engaging in further discrimination or retaliation and mandated employee training in anti-discrimination law.
