Case Summary

In September 2004, the Philadelphia District Office of the EEOC brought this suit against AIG Marketing, Inc., a subsidiary of American International Group, Inc., in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania alleging discrimination on the basis of race in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Specifically, the complaint alleged the defendant promoted white female employees instead of claimants, African-American female employees, and terminated one of the charging parties in retaliation for her complaints about the behavior.

Following discovery and a motion for summary judgment by the defendant, the parties settled the dispute in December 2006 through a consent decree. The eighteen-month consent decree awarded more than $78,500 in backpay to two complainants. The consent decree also required posting of notice, training for employees who handle complaints, and refraining from discrimination or retaliation. The complainants were also given neutral references. There is no further activity on the docket sheet until July 2010 when the case was dismissed with prejudice.
