The EEOC's Chicago district office sued PZ Restaurants, Inc. on June 4, 2004 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. The EEOC's complaint alleged that the defendant violated Title VII when it discriminated based on sex (female) by creating a hostile work environment; discharging numerous employees, including the complainant, in retaliation for their complaints; and providing the complainant with conditions of employment after rehiring her which resulted in her constructive discharge . The parties entered into a consent decree on October 27, 2004, which stipulated that the defendant would pay the complainant $10,000 in damages, costs and fees; post a notice of compliance with Title VII; provide Title VII training to its employees; maintain and distribute a non-discrimination policy; maintain records of sex discrimination complaints; allow the EEOC to enter to review these records and interview employees; and report complaints of sex discrimination to the EEOC semiannually.
