Case Summary

The Seattle District Office of the EEOC brought this suit against Maritime Employment Services, which licenses people for work on commercial fishing vessels, in September of 2002, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington. The complainant and a group of unidentified women allege discrimination based on sex in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. They claim that Maritime Employment Services refused to license these women for work on a commercial fishing vessel. Ultimately a default judgment was entered. After the plaintiff filed a memorandum as to why the case should not be dismissed for failure to prosecute, the default judgment was finally entered.
