In December 1999, the Memphis Office of the EEOC brought this lawsuit against Heil Trailer International in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee. We do not have a copy of the complaint; therefore, the exact allegations involved are unknown. However, the EEOC's annual report indicates that the the defendant trailer manufacturer allegedly failed to hire female applicants for entry level factory positions and otherwise assigned, segregated and limited the job opportunities of female employees because of their sex. Following some scheduling motions, the parties settled the lawsuit through a consent decree in December 2001. This decree required the Defendant to pay $250,000 to women harmed by the alleged practices, to adopt non-discriminatory hiring policies, and to provide training to its managers. This decree as a term of two years.
