Case Summary

In June 1998, the Washington, D.C. Field Office of the EEOC brought this suit against Barton's Protective Services, Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. We do not have a copy of the complaint; therefore, the exact allegations involved are unknown. However, it appears from the Court's order granting summary judgment that the complaint alleged that the charging party, a female employee, was sexually harassed in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, resulting in her constructive discharge. After a couple status conferences and some discovery, the defendant filed a motion for summary judgment in mid March 1999. The court granted the defendant's motion a few months later in May, dismissing the case. The EEOC filed a notice of appeal in June 1999, but the appeal was dismissed in late August. Therefore, the EEOC received no relief.
