Case Summary

The EEOC's San Antonio office, in conjunction with its El Paso office, filed this suit on November 19, 2002 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, Lubbock Division. The EEOC alleged that defendant Icon Benefit Administrators Inc., formerly known as Ted L. Parker & Associates Inc., discharged the two complainants in violation of Title VII. One complainant was allegedly discharged because of his atheistic religious views and in retaliation for complaining of religious discrimination. The second complainant was allegedly discharged because of her gender and her Catholic religious views. One complainant intervened in the suit. The EEOC and the defendant both filed discovery motions and a trial date was set before the parties reached an agreement to settle. The settlement agreement was proposed and entered into the record on November 3, 2003. The defendant agreed to pay the complainants $5,000 each and rovide training for its management staff.
