Case Summary

The Los Angeles District Office of the EEOC brought this complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, against Ian Schrager Hotels, Inc. d/b/a Mondrian Hotel. The complaint, filed in January 1999, alleged race and national origin discrimination in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Eight of the nine charging parties intervened in January 2000 and in August 2001 the parties entered into a settlement agreement.

The agreement was valid for two years and required Defendant to pay $120,000 to each of the nine charging parties. Defendant was enjoined from discriminating or retaliating in violation of Title VII, required to maintain an anti-discrimination policy, provide its managers and supervisors with EEO training, and submit various reports to the EEOC regarding its compliance with the decree.
