The Los Angeles District Office of the EEOC filed this lawsuit against Pechiney Cast Plate Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. We do not have a copy of the complaint; therefore, the exact allegations involved are unknown. However, it appears from the consent decree that the complaint was made to resolve the Commission's complaint against the prior operators and owner-employers of the defendant regarding discrimination on the basis of national origin, Hispanic, in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Prior to the defendant's appearance in the lawsuit, the parties filed a consent decree resolving the lawsuit.
The three-year decree, containing an anti-discrimination clause, required the defendant to: make compliance reports, keep records, permit the EEOC to audit compliance, allowed access to outsiders for monitoring, post all job opportunities in English and Spanish, post and distribute notice of employee rights, provide EEO training, implement a dispute resolution process, prepare Spanish language translations of specified documents, and permitted the EEOC to issue a press release regarding the resolution of the lawsuit.
