In September 2000 the Los Angeles district office of the EEOC brought this suit against Pizza Hut of America, Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. The complaint is unavailable; however court documents indicate that the EEOC brought the suit on behalf of four female former employees who were subjected to a sexually hostile work environment.
The case was settled in June 2003 by the entry of a consent decree. The defendant agreed to pay the complainants $360,000.00 in resolution of their claims, representing $35,209 in backpay and $324,791 in compensatory damages. The defendant was required to retain an Equal Employment Opportunity Consultant and to provide EEO training to its managerial employees. In addition, the defendant was required to keep records of all formal complaints and report to the EEOC on a semi-annual basis.
