EEOC's Phoenix, AZ office, along with the Albuquerque, NM and Washington, DC offices filed this sexual harassment lawsuit against the defendant, New Mexico Newspapers, Inc. in the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico (Albuquerque) on 09/29/1998. The defendant owns the Daily Times in Farmington, NM. EEOC alleged on behalf of two identified female complainants and a class of females in similar situations that the defendant subjected them to a sexually-hostile work environment, including unwelcome physical and verbal conduct. Additionally, one identified complainant was retaliated against and the other was forced to resign. EEOC sought injunctive relief, backpay, pecuniary and non-pecuniary losses and punitive damages.

Neither party was very active in the pre-trial stage as no motion was filed nor settlement conference held. The case was resolved by a consent decree entered on 07/22/1999. Without access to the consent decree, it is not known what type of relief was obtained.
