On September 29, 1998, the Memphis office of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) filed a lawsuit under Title VII in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Arkansas on behalf of eight women who claimed to have suffered gender discrimination and sexual harassment at the hands of the defendant. The defendant in the case was Elgin A. Hamner, III, doing business as the Cock of the Walk Restaurant.
On February 23, 1999, the Court entered a consent decree in the case. Under the consent decree, the defendant was enjoined from engaging in further discrimination and was required to pay $90,000 in damages to eight different complaintants. The decree was to last for three years. The only document that we have in this case is the docket.
