The EEOC's Philadelphia district office filed suit against World Kitchen, Inc., a Pennsylvania cookware manufacturer which distributes nationally, on September 29, 2005 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. The EEOC's complaint alleged that World Kitchen violated Title VII when it discriminated against at least three of its employees based on sex (female) by paying them less than their male counterparts and were discharged without warning despite positive work records. Two of these aggrieved employees intervened in the lawsuit in April 2006. World Kitchen filed a motion to dismiss the suit or alternatively to be granted summary judgment in November 2005, but the court rejected this motion in June 2006, referring the parties to conciliation. The parties reached a settlement out of court, the terms of which are unavailable, and the case was dismissed on December 29, 2006.
