In April 2000, the Louisville Area Office (with participation from the Indianapolis District Office) brought this suit against Stephen T. Cox, Inc., d/b/a Cox Cabinet Co., in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky. The only document publicly available regarding this case is the docket; therefore, the exact allegations involved are unknown. However, it appears from the docket that the complaint alleged discrimination on the basis of race in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. After some scheduling orders and a couple discovery disputes, the parties took part in a settlement conference in October 2001. It appears the parties reached a settlement agreement about two weeks after the conference, and the court ordered the case dismissed as settled in mid-October. However, by the end of that month, the EEOC filed a motion to reopen the case. The parties then took part in a couple conferences in November and finally reached a final agreement through a consent decree in late November 2001.
