In September 2004, the Baltimore District Office of the EEOC filed this lawsuit against BlueHippo Funding, LLC in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland alleging discrimination on the basis of age in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Specifically, the complaint alleged that the defendant discriminated against the charging parties, employees over forty years old, by terminating their employment. The parties settled the lawsuit through a consent decree shortly after the lawsuit was filed.
The two-year decree, containing an anti-discrimination clause, required the defendant to: update, post and distribute notice of its policies against age discrimination, provide training to managers and supervisors, submit revised policies and certify compliance to the EEOC, and pay $13,485.42 to be divided between two charging parties that had not already received compensation.
