Originally filed in the U.S. District for the Northern District of Texas, the Dallas office of the EEOC transferred this case against Teleservices Marketing Corporation and General Telemarketing International, Inc. to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas in March 2004. The amended complaint alleged discrimination based on national origin in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. More specifically, the claimant alleged the defendants terminated his employment because of his national origin, Sudanese. While the case was referred to a mediator in October 2004, the parties were unable to reach an agreement and discovery continued with some disputes. The defendants both filed Motions for Summary Judgment which were denied. The jury trial commenced on July 24, 2005; the jury returned a verdict in favor of the defendants on July 25, 2006. The judge additionally ordered the defendants to recover its costs of action from the EEOC, which after a dispute between the parties, the Court determined to be $871.30.
