The EEOC's Birmingham district office sued Cooper Tire & Rubber Company, on March 26, 1998 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi. The EEOC's cause of action is unknown because the docket is the only document available for this case. After numerous district judge reassignments and trial date postponements, the defendant filed a motion for summary judgment on June 29, 1999 which was granted on September 27, 2001. The EEOC appealed the decision in January 2002, but the appellate court dismissed the appeal on February 22, 2002.
