On July 15, 1980, prisoners at the Iowa Men's Reformatory in Anamosa, Iowa filed a lawsuit under 42 U.S.C. §1983 against the Iowa Department of Corrections in the U.S. District Court for the District of Iowa. The plaintiffs alleged that their constitutional rights had been violated by the defendants' actions restricting their access to postage and mail supplies. On September 16, 1981, the parties entered into a private settlement agreement, and on October 9, 1981, the U.S. District Court for the District of Iowa (Judge Edward McManus) approved the settlement agreement. On November 21, 1985, the parties agreed to amend the settlement agreement, and on December 18, 1985, the U.S. District Court for the District of Iowa approved the amendment.
On March 29, 1999, the U.S. District Court for the District of Iowa (Judge McManus) granted the defendants' unresisted motion to dismiss the case and terminate the relief that had been granted to the plaintiffs. As we have only the docket for this case, we have no further information on the proceedings.
