In September 2003, the Detroit District Office of the EEOC brought this suit against Ammex, Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan alleging discrimination in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 ("ADA"). Specifically, the defendant allegedly failed to reasonably accommodate the charging party's disability, polio, and laid her off because of her disability. The defendant answered the complaint in late October. After a single scheduling order, the parties settled in early July 2004 through a settlement agreement.
The two-year agreement, containing non-discrimination and non-retaliation clauses, required the defendant to: give the charging party retroactive seniority, provide ADA training for its managers and supervisors, post an ADA notice, and pay the charging party $16,400.
