In July 2005, the EEOC district office in Chicago, Illinois brought this action against Howard Pontiac, Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. The complaint alleged that the defendant violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Acts when it terminated and issued negative references for a male employee in retaliation for his complaints of being sexually harassed by a co-worker.
Before the defendant filed its formal answer to the complaint, the parties settled and a consent decree was entered in October 2005. The defendant agreed to pay the aggrieved party $32,500, refrain from retaliating against employees who complained of retaliation, post an EEO notice, provide EEO training to its managers and HR personnel, and submit semiannual complaint/compliance reports to the EEOC.
The decree was entered in 2005 and scheduled to last until 2007. No further docket entries exist, so the case is closed.
