Case Summary

In February 2001, the EEOC district office in New York, New York filed this suit against Marchfirst, Inc. and USweb/CKS in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. The EEOC alleged that the defendants violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act by demoting, disciplining, and constructively discharging an executive assistant because she was pregnant. The charging party moved to intervene in the case, but before the court ruled on the motion, the case was settled. In March 2002 a consent decree was entered; the decree is unavailable, but the EEOC litigation report states that the defendant agreed to pay the complainant $120,000.
