Case Summary

In August 2004, the Memphis office of the EEOC brought this suit against Appalachian Oil Co., Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee. The complaint alleged that the defendant discriminated against the claimants because of their sex in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. More specifically, the defendant subjected the defendant to sexual harassment and constructive discharge. The case settled by consent decree in September 2005.

The three year consent decree required the defendant to pay the claimants $17,000 in damages, refrain from discrimination and retaliation, provide neutral references for the claimants, provide training for all supervisory and non-supervisory employees, post notice, and give a compliance report to the EEOC. The docket sheet doesn't show any further enforcement took place; the case was presumably closed in 2008.
