In March 1999, the EEOC district office in Charlotte, North Carolina brought this suit against Carolina Floor Systems, Inc., a flooring construction firm, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina. The complaint alleged that the defendant unlawfully discriminated against a black employee in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by failing to remedy the racial harassment engaged in by his co-workers. After the case was referred to a mediated settlement conference and the defense moved for, and was granted, an extension of time to complete discovery, the parties stipulated to a dismissal (in November 2000).
