In March 2001, the EEOC district office in Atlanta, Georgia brought this suit against Wren Chevrolet, Inc., a regional automobile dealership, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Georgia. The complaint states that a female alleged that the defendant unlawfully discriminated against her, in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, when it refused to promote her to a managerial position because of her sex. The parties settled and a consent decree was entered in June 2001.
In the consent decree, the parties agreed that the defendant would refrain from retaliating and discriminating on the basis of sex, post notices of the consent decree, provide EEO training, issue a neutral reference letter for the complainant, appoint an EEO compliance official, pay the aggrieved woman $140,000, and submit semiannual compliance/complaint reports.
