In March 2005, the EEOC district office in Miami, Florida brought this suit against Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group and DTG Operations, collectively Dollar Rent A Car, in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida. In March 2005, the EEOC district office in Miami, Florida brought this suit against Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group and DTG Operations, collectively Dollar Rent A Car, in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida. The complaint states that a Black male alleged that the defendant discriminated against him on the basis of his race in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Specifically, he claimed that the defendant did not transfer him to a position for which he was qualified. This inaction, it was claimed, resulted in the complainant's eventual termination because a corporate restructuring initiative eliminated his current position. After the parties engaged in mediation and the defense failed to succeed on its motion for summary judgment, the parties settled. A consent decree was entered in September 2006.

In the consent decree, the parties agreed that the defendant would refrain from retaliating and discriminating on the basis of race, implement an EEO policy, distribute and post its anti-discrimination policy, provide EEO training, implement a complaint system, post EEO notices, retain all records of race discrimination complaints, submit semiannual compliance/complaint reports, and pay the aggrieved party $65,000. No fees or costs were awarded. The terms of the decree ran for three years.

The docket sheet does not show any further enforcement took place; the case was presumably closed in 2009.
