Case Summary

The Phoenix District Office of the EEOC brought this suit against Honstein Oil Company (doing business as Chevron Express) and Employer's Depot, Inc. (doing business as Resource Network Leasing, Inc.) in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico in January 1999. The complaint alleged that the defendants engaged in sexual harassment and retaliation for opposition to sexual harassment in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The parties settled by entry of two settlement agreements in January 2000. The one year settlement agreement with Honstein Oil prohibited discrimination or retaliation against the charging parties and required the defendant to pay $5000 in punitive damages to each charging party. The three year settlement agreement with Employer's Depot required the defendant to have Title VII training; post notice; send biannual compliance reports to the EEOC; and pay $19,524.97 in compensatory damages.
