The EEOC's Dallas district office sued Eagle Ridge Institute, Inc., an Oklahoma rehabilitation institute, on April 15, 1998 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma. The EEOC alleged that Eagle Ridge violated Title VII when it discriminated based on sex (female) by creating a hostile work environment. The parties entered into a consent decree on January 20, 1999 which stipulated that it would not create a hostile work environment for any of its employees, it would not retaliate against Title VII complaints, it would provide a copy of its sexual harassment policy to all employees, it would post a notice of compliance with Title VII, it would provide Title VII training to its employees, would create a letter of positive reference for the aggrieved employee, and pay $72,500 in damages to the aggrieved employee.
