Case Summary

(This summary is temporary, while we research the case.)

This lawsuit, brought by a coalition of parents, students, and groups representing other stakeholders in the public education system, sought to compel the state of New York to fully fund the Foundation Aid formula, a school-funding system established to ensure a sound basic education for all students in the state. In 2021, the parties agreed to stay the case in light of the New York legislature's commitment to phase in the remaining annual funding required to fully fund the Foundation Aid formula.

Note that plaintiffs originally brought this action in 2014 under Index No. 650450/2014; on September 2, 2014, the action was consolidated with Miriam Aristy-Farer et al. v. The State of New York et al. under the current case docket number (Index No. 100274/2013).
