On December 28, 1990 six former female employees filed suit against Pansophic Systems Inc. in the District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Two other former female employees subsequently joined the suit. They alleged a range of gender discrimination complaints including that they were paid lower salaries than male employees and endured harassment and retaliation. They claimed that when Pansophic conducted layoffs female employees who were more qualified than male employees were targeted. They also claimed that Pansophic had breached contracts with them and violated state laws through negligent behavior on the part of certain employees.
The district court (Judge Ann Williams) denied Pansophic's motion to dismiss the claims related to breach of contract and other state laws on June 12, 1992. The parties thereafter engaged in extended discovery. On January 17, 1997 the district court granted Pansophic's motion for summary judgment on those claims. While preparing for trial on the remaining claims the parties engaged in settlement negotiations and entered a settlement with the court on March 26, 1998. The details of the settlement are not known.
