In 2004, attorneys representing the blind community entered into structured negotiations with American Express regarding the company's accommodations for blind and visually impaired customers. On March 25, 2005, the parties entered into a settlement agreement.
Under the terms of the agreement, American Express agreed to provide Braille and Large Print information to all customers. Blind customers in the U.S. would be able to receive credit card statements and year end statements in these formats, rather than in the normal print format.
