On September 10, 1982, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana entered a consent decree in a case regarding the population caps at the Avoyelles Bunkie Detention Center in Avoyelles Parish, Lousiana. On August 4, 1994, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana (Judge Frank J. Polozola) ordered that all cases involving population caps for parish prisons must be reopened and reconsidered.
On February 27, 1997, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana (Judge Polozola) modified the consent decree to reflect new population limits for the jail. On March 19, 1997, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana (Judge Polozola) again modified the consent decree to reflect another set of population limits for the jail. On December 23, 1997, the case was again closed.
