On November 12, 1997, the United States Department of Justice filed an employment discrimination lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas against the Arkansas State University Board of Trustees, alleging that the defendants discriminated on the basis of sex. The District Court (Judge G. T. Eisele) entered the consent decree which contained specific stipulations regarding pregnancy discrimination, on November 19, 1997. The court retained jurisdiction over the case for four years.
