Case Summary

On November 22, 2000, the U.S. Department of Justice ("D.O.J.") filed a lawsuit against the New Mexico Department of Public Safety under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico. The D.O.J., alleged that the defendant subjected one of its employees to sexual harassment and subsequently refused to take appropriate actions to remedy the problem. Plaintiff sought injunctive and monetary relief.

On October 16, 2001, the district court (Judge James A. Parker) approved a consent decree agreed to by the parties and dismissed the case. The defendant agreed to take measures to the prevent harassment of its employees in the future. The defendant also agreed to implement a training program to train its employees on its sexual harassment policy.

We have no further information at this time.
