Case Summary

Plaintiff filed suit on June 17, 1996, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, alleging violations of the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA), 15 U.S.C. 1691, and federal civil rights statutes, 42 U.S.C. 1981, 1982. Plaintiff alleged that the Defendant-lender rejected plaintiff's loan application because of her race and her status as a single woman. U.S. District Court Judge Richard W. Story granted Defendants motion for summary judgment on March 1, 2000, after finding that the plaintiff had insufficient income and lacked the money necessary for a closing. Sallion v.
