[This summary is temporary while we research the case.]

On October 6, 2025, a group of Chicago journalistic organizations filed suit against the Trump administration in U.S. District Court in the Northern District of Illinois to protect their First Amendment rights to peacefully protest the government's deployment of the national guard to the city of Chicago. Plaintiffs want to protest in the area around the ICE facility in Broadview, Illinois, and in other places where demonstrators are opposing the Administration’s federal incursion into the Chicagoland area. This lawsuit concerns the rights of the journalist Plaintiffs to observe, record, and report on the federal agents’ activities and the public’s demonstrations against them. They have been subjected to brutality and arrests despite, plaintiff's claim, no physical threat to the officers or government property. Plaintiffs allege that defendants are acting to intimidate and silence the press and civilians engaged in protected First Amendment activities.

This case is ongoing.
