Nominated by Theodore Roosevelt on December 2, 1902, to a seat vacated by John Davis. Confirmed by the Senate on January 13, 1903, and received commission on January 13, 1903. Service terminated on March 16, 1905, due to appointment to another judicial position.

Judge, U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Illinois
Nominated by Theodore Roosevelt on March 14, 1905, to a new seat authorized by 33 Stat. 992. Confirmed by the Senate on March 17, 1905, and received commission on March 17, 1905. Service terminated on July 15, 1917, due to death.
